Something Redeemable About Walmart

I think there is only 1 kind employee at Walmart.  After 11 pm too.  As I was paying for my made-in-China loot, the checker stuck a bunch of plastic bags in my newly purchased garbage cans.  And I didn't notice till I got home.  

I love meeting nice people.

Yesterday was my favorite day of the week.

We have late church now, which I love.  India and I  played Princess Dominoes and Cooties, we made waffles again, Ammon was home, and the weather was nice as long as you weren't breathing it. 

Before church Ammon and I had a talk with India about the earthquake in Haiti.  We looked at pictures on ksl.com and discussed what the people were doing/feeling in each one.  She noticed Haitians had a different color of skin than we do.  I'm glad because we've been talking about race since last summer.  Then we asked India if she would give some of her money from her piggy bank to help the people in Haiti.  India started crying. She said it was hard.  She didn't want to because she was saving up to buy a toy.  I started crying because how do you help a three-year-old understand starvation, devastation, and urgency? I told India the story of The Good Samaritan, and Ammon explained that Jesus wants us to help other people however we can. India understood.  And she willingly gave up her money. We are so proud of her for doing hard things. Later in church, we showed India the picture of The Good Samaritan, and she told us the story word-for-word after only hearing it once!

To end a beautiful day, we went to Centerville for church and Rachel's 13th birthday (sniff sniff - my beautiful little sister is a teenager).  We played Junior Trivial Pursuit and got mad at Ammon for answering everybody's questions.  The only thing missing was Dad.  It's not right to have our family traditions without him.  Hopefully, my family can be with him soon in New Hampshire.  We miss you Dad!

Expensive Dating

Ammon took the day off work to go on a date with me . . . to the dentist. Our last trip to the dentist was 10 years ago for Ammon and 6 years ago for me.

12 x-rays, 2 cleanings, 6 cavities, 4 shots, another appointment in two weeks, and $525 later, we walked out numb-mouthed and tongues the size of gorilla fists. I lucked out marrying Ammon because I didn't fully realize the quality of genes he has hopefully passed on to our children. He had his first and only cavity filled today. I had the other five.

Guess which one of us brushes her teeth 4 times a day AND flosses? Guess which one of us brushes his teeth maybe once a day and NEVER flosses? Guess which one of us has thrown up at least 300 times when she was pregnant? Thanks a lot for ruining my teeth offspring!

Sarcasm aside, I am so grateful for modern times and modern medicine. I won't lie. I wanted Ammon to hold my hand while I got 3 shots in my mouth. But I didn't. And I didn't pass out! I just pretended the shots were like epidurals - the most expensive and amazing thing I've ever used. In fact, I wish I could pack an epidural in my 72 hour kit.

Anyway, we recouped the cost by selling our Honda. (Which we were going to anyway - now we don't have to take money out of savings). Back to being a 1 car family - like the newlyweddish days.

Summer Fun

Free helium-filled balloon from grocery store + more string + hanger + child = Balloon Kiting

India did a fabulous job of painting my toenails with her new fingernail polish that she got for letting Livia-O wax her unibrow.  I love it!  Last night at work when I was missing the girls, I would slip off my glass slipper shoes (India's term for closed-toe shoes) and admire all the pretty colors she chose for me.
